Dear Richard,
I love that you're just now realizing that you're a leftist. Of course you are, because when do you and I agree on anything? Usually never. But in many ways I concur, and I think the "hell in a handbasket" expression of gay marriage is a bit extreme. However, it is a downhill slope. Why? Bceause we are moving away from the ideal. The IDEAL is a nuclear family. And of course it won't always be that way. But why have the government sanction something so opposite of what is in it's best interest? It's so PC that it harms more than helps.
Also, another thing to consider: lawsuits. I've read some articles about gay couples suing priests and LDS Bishops for not performing their marriage ceremony. That is hubris at it's height. And it offends the first amendment. No bueno.
So long as you are in favor of Yes of Prop 8, I think you reconcile your conflicts and the gospel just fine :) Bless your little bleeding heart.
